She has become one of the first of the new Awakened. The power that her seraphim lets her control must now be put to use in defence of this emerging nation, as the whole world seeks to control the magic it alone holds.
Taking to the seas with an American adventurer of undoubted charm, Joce must master that power, stymie both French and English slave ships, and work out what exactly has the seraphim so afraid.
